Our book selection for the August 19 meeting is: The Dressmaker: a novel, by Kate Alcott, published in 2012.
This historical fiction begins with the tragedy of the Titanic and covers the story of Tess, a young girl on her way to America to start a new life as a dressmaker. At the center of the drama is real-life British fashion designer Lucile, Lady Duff Gordon, who has survived the sinking but becomes embroiled in a scandal regarding her survival. Tess must decide whether her loyalties belong to Lucile or to the truth as told by one of the surviving sailors.
