The Riverton Area Book Club will meet Saturday, September 21, to consider Vanderbilt: the rise and fall of an American dynasty, by Anderson Cooper. Cooper is a bestselling author and journalist; he is also the son of Gloria Vanderbilt and great great great grandson of Cornelius, the wealthy railroad and shipping magnate. In his book he teams up with historian and novelist Katherine Howe to delve into his gilded age ancestors who both shored up and decreased the wealth of this famous family.
Book selections have also been made for the rest of 2024. October: State of Terror, by Hillary Clinton and Louise Penny November: Mrs. Kennedy and Me: An Intimate Memoir, by Clint Hill We will begin 2025 in January with Doris Kearns Goodwin's Bully Pulpit: Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and the Golden Age of Journalism. Meetings are held at the Riverton Library from 10-11 am. The library staff obtain copies of books and audios through interlibrary loan.
